I remember reading a newspaper article some time ago that said the adolescent brain doesn’t develop into an adult brain until age 25. The article referred to a research study where this had been scientifically proven. I went to work the next day and mentioned it to the teachers, trainers and support workers in the staffroom. They didn’t seem surprised. You see, we all worked in the local juvenile justice centre. We were all used to seeing our students return regularly to our school. They just didn’t grow out of their adolescent behaviours, no matter what strategies we tried to move them on.
