All very well for parents to state ‘education is free’ but what actually happens is that teachers themselves are putting their hands in their pockets to provide books, pencils, etc. to pay for these basic items and are not reimbursed by the schools. In my 15 years of teaching I have spent thousands on providing sport equipment, science items, stationary, etc. and I know many thousands of teachers are doing the same across the country. Politicians are happy to fork out on their own ‘pensions for life’ payments but are not willing to pay for our most precious commodity, the education of our youth.
