What students really think of you

UNICEF Australia is worried about our school students. First, an October report from the global chapter of the UN child humanitarian agency found that Australia ranks 31 out of 40 EU and OECD countries in terms of national education equality.

Teachers would be ‘more inspiring’ if we weren’t bogged down with constant individual assessments, data collection and entering endless data for every student and over-the-top 6 page reporting for each child. When you have a class of 25-32 students and are forced to do individual assessments in class, what are the other 24-31 students doing? The other students often need guidance, assistance and direction from the teacher while the teacher is trying to assess the individual student. Teachers are over-worked and have less time to prepare creative and inspiring lessons. We also have less time for effective feedback to students. Lets look at the ‘real’ workload and expectations put on teachers these days. The system is broken!!!! I have been teaching permanently in the public education system since 1988 and have witnessed seriously damaging changes in the past 10 years.
