Hello James – Alan November was really critical of ‘tech companies’ in the US recently after the annual ISTE conference in Denver in that they have created a “mess in schools” – selling ‘every new and shiny device’ to schools without the focus being on teachers’ professionalism and the fact that as a profession this is what we know about ie pedagogy and learning – when the focus is the tech – deep learning and what constitutes quality teaching and effective student engagement will not occur. I am very pleased to see more companies/business taking responsibility for ‘the mess they have created’. Reliable, consistent wifi in many NSW schools, for example, is still a problem
Most tech is not created with an educative purpose – ie for a specific purpose in education in schools – we try to retro fit it and make it educational – the ipad is a good example.
