How three Aussie schools are transforming learning experiences with display tech

Primary and high schools across Australia are embracing cutting-edge display technology to improve student learning experiences.

From delivering more dynamic learning plans, to inspiring students to brainstorm and collaborate in new ways, to building community and comradery; schools that are investing in display technologies are transforming student outcomes, both inside and outside the classroom.  

It comes as no surprise to most educators that technology adoption is increasingly vital to keep pace with the changing needs and expectations of students.

Recent Samsung research shows 71 per cent of teachers agree that technology integration within classrooms improves the quality of learning opportunities they provide students*. This includes improving accessibility to educational resources (61 per cent), enhancing digital knowledge and expertise (59 per cent), offering future-proofing skills development (59 per cent), and driving higher engagement with lesson content (53 per cent)*.

This need has inspired schools to embrace their adoption journeys, with almost three-quarters (72 per cent) using tech for lesson content, such as screens or presentations.  Furthermore, almost two-thirds (64 per cent) are using interactive tools, to increase student engagement in lessons*.

Samsung has worked with a range of Australian schools to help them implement game-changing interactive display technology to provide richer educational experiences.

From transformative outcomes for students in remote areas to state-of-the-art urban facilities, these schools are leading the way in leveraging technology to create a brighter future for their students.

1. Bringing interactive learning experiences to remote schools in the Lang Lang catchment

Interactive display technology is incredibly useful for remote schools that need to pool their resources to meet students’ needs. Samsung, in partnership with Social Ventures Australia, recently worked with three primary schools in regional Victoria’s Lang Lang catchment to help students build STEM capabilities with the Flip Pro Interactive Display.   

In using the interactive whiteboard, Lang Lang teachers could easily display workbook pages and empower students to annotate over their work live. Seamless connectivity between the Flip and multiple student devices made it easy to share images and documents and collaborate to solve problems.

“Teachers and students use the Flip daily and it’s truly transformed the learning environment,” said Lang Lang catchment teacher Brendan Hodge. “It helps students struggling with their learning become more engaged.”

On top of numerous student benefits, the devices also enhanced collaboration and professional development for teachers. As content from past lessons is saved, teachers can easily oversee how the Flip is being used to deliver lessons and how activities are modelled.

The Flip also made it easier for teachers to track student progress and substitute for other classes when teachers are unavailable. This has ensured consistent learning experiences and improved engagement.

“Students are more confident when it comes to using technology, and are working more collaboratively using the Flip,” Mr Hodge said.

“Engagement levels with students have risen significantly, as they’re more likely to remain focused on classroom tasks. The Flip has acted as a powerful instrument in cultivating student’s imaginations and bringing their ideas to life.”

2. Empowering students to learn and grow at St Joseph’s College

St Joseph’s College in Victoria used display technology to elevate the educational experience. The school, which serves approximately 1000 students with 120 staff members, integrated Samsung Flip Pro displays into its classrooms as part of a broader initiative to modernise its educational infrastructure.

The devices have helped the school create more collaborative environments, enabling students to display and annotate over their work on the Flip’s large screen without disrupting the flow of the lesson. It allowed teachers to create more dynamic lesson plans to keep students engaged, even in large, busy classrooms.

“What sold us on the Samsung Flip was the high resolution of the display and the sheer number of tools that we can use,” said St Joseph’s IT manager Phil Skiller.

“It's so easy to write something, change the colour, remove it, write something else, save what you've done and go back to it later, without having to recreate it again.”

The Flip Pro quickly became seamlessly integrated into lesson plans, inspiring students to become more actively involved in the teaching process. They now feel more encouraged to speak at the front of classrooms.

“The real success of the Flip interactive displays has been the uptake by students,” said St Joseph’s deputy principal and teacher, Andrew Cooper.

“We've got students using the Flip to tutor each other after school, using the same methods they’ve seen their teachers use. They're up there using all the different tools to help their peers, which is game-changing.”

3. Creating versatile spaces with digital signage at Sydney’s Barker College

At Barker College in Sydney, display technology has been used to transform the Rosewood Centre, a state-of-the-art sporting facility, into a versatile, multi-purpose space. Display screens situated around the sports centre dynamically change to suit different events, making it suitable for multiple school needs.

“The building functions in all sorts of ways,” says head of Barker College Phillip Heath.

“It's a sports centre, but it also hosts concerts, celebrations, farewells, greetings, and chapel services, sometimes in quick succession.”

Barker College needed digital signage technology that could adjust to different environments, ensuring high brightness in the middle of summer to prevent glare, and high resolutions to ensure they could be read from a variety of distances.

“Samsung has an excellent name in the education space,” Mr Heath said. People are confident in the product because it's high-quality and durable. Schools give their technology quite a workout and expect a lot of it.

Innovative display technology that helps schools lead the way

By embracing innovative solutions like Samsung’s interactive displays and LED screens, these schools are not only enhancing educational experiences but are also setting new standards for student engagement, collaboration, and learning outcomes.
