From technology investment to learning impact: Making every screen count

Discover how purposeful use of technology can improve accessibility, literacy, engagement and learning outcomes.

Schools have invested heavily in technology, it’s a part of the modern learning experience. But we’re now faced with a harder question: is it actually having a measurable impact on learning?

That question is especially urgent as schools navigate rapid advances in AI, rising expectations around accessibility, increasing pressures on teacher time, and ongoing debates about screen time.

Powerful outcomes start with purposeful choices. When technology is selected and used around a clear learning goal, it can remove barriers, strengthen literacy and engagement, improve learner independence and give teachers more time to focus on teaching.

A global event built around the big issues in education

On 28th October, Everway Unlocked will bring together leading voices, practitioners and education decision-makers for a free global online event focused on one central idea: using purposeful technology for powerful outcomes.

The event is the next chapter of the Festival of Inclusive Education, which has attracted tens of thousands of educators around the world. Now as Everway Unlocked, the event broadens the conversation from inclusion to the bigger strategic challenge facing schools today: how to create learning environments where technology helps more students access, engage and achieve.

Sessions will explore some of the most important issues shaping education today, including ethical use of AI, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), literacy, accessibility, learner engagement and neurodiversity. Speakers include AI educator and author Dan Fitzpatrick, UDL specialists Katie Novak and Luis Pérez, and dyslexia specialist Sherry Maher Erian.

Technology that’s worth the screen time

Kicking off this year’s event is Dr Catlin Tucker’s opening keynote, The problem isn’t screen time, it’s design. She’ll explore how intentional learning design can turn technology from a passive distraction into a tool that enhances communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking – all while creating more opportunities for meaningful teacher interaction.

Attendees can expect a mix of research, classroom practice and forward-looking thinking, designed to give both practitioners and senior leaders useful ways to interrogate their own digital strategy.

Educators will leave with practical ideas to make technology more purposeful, support diverse learner needs and improve classroom outcomes. Education leaders will gain practical insights to help evaluate what’s working, prioritise investment and make technology decisions that deliver better outcomes for learners and teachers.

From technology investment to meaningful impact

How do you judge whether a tool is improving learning or simply increasing device use? Where can technology remove a genuine barrier? How can digital tools strengthen literacy and learner confidence? What does an ethical approach to AI look like, and how do schools avoid outsourcing thinking? And how can technology reduce friction for teachers instead of creating more admin?

Everway Unlocked will explore an outcomes-first approach to these decisions. Rather than starting with a product or trend, leaders are encouraged to start with the learner, the teaching challenge or the outcome they want to improve, then assess where technology can add meaningful value.

Expect fresh perspectives, evidence-led discussion, real-world examples and practical approaches you can take back to your school or system. The goal is not more technology. It is better choices about technology: choices that help teachers teach and learners thrive.
