Low literacy scores for primary school students
A study conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) has revealed Australian primary school students scored the lowest of any English-speaking nation in an international test of reading.

As a retired Principal with the NSW Department of Education and Communities, I have never been in a public school in my 38 year career that had been involved in these tests or EVER involved in these tests.I thought NAPLAN was the basis upon which we determined whether standards were dropping or increasing in Australia. These results seem to completely contradict what NAPLAN is telling us.
