The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy is failing to achieve its goals of improving literacy and numeracy among school children, a survey of teachers has found.

The study was led by Dr Greg Thompson, a Murdoch University researcher. The results showed that the NAPLAN tests are perceived to be of little benefit for improving literacy and numeracy, create a less inclusive classroom environment and lower student engagement.
