NSW government earmarks tougher prerequisites for state’s teachers

Specialist teachers in NSW will need to have extensively studied their subjects at university before they can teach in high schools, the state's education minister says.

Teachers’ core content knowledge in STEM subjects is no doubt vital but equally important is the ability to demonstrate the practical real-world significance of these subjects to students so students can see the benefits of pursuing STEM beyond school. They need to be engaged and inspired to take up STEM if we are to create a STEM literate future work force.
