Sincerely: If mathematics and science were taught as well as drama and art we would have those classrooms full to the brim. Don’t blame the tools, blame the workman! Or at least provide the PD that would build teachers into educators that would allow them to teach the underlying concepts of mathematics and science rather than getting the right answer or the right labels correct for the blank diagrams!
Seriously we need to re-train most mathematics and science teachers to present the mathematics and the sciences, as experiences that learners have every day. Every day we get dressed and that is an algebraic equation – five-year-olds dress themselves (mostly) and five-year-olds know how much pressure they need to apply the brake on their bike to stop at the kerb by calculating the rate of change that their speed needs to decrease (calculus). Download the rationale here at no charge – it will change how you think about these two learning domains and possibly explain why learners like the other subjects … and no they are not easier; they are just taught better. Quite humbling really! http://bit.ly/2tFtVUC
