  1. Just completed my Phd on career change beginning teachers and can see the critical importance of this cohort of teachers as suggested in this article. More than a third of the beginning teacher workforce are career change individuals who have worked elsewhere before entering the teaching profession. So, it merits to pay attention to this group of ‘older’ teachers who have much to offer to the profession. Supporting older teachers (particularly when they join the profession) is vital to retaining them. Their needs may be different to those of other beginning teachers. Schools and other staff must be aware of their skills and attributes when career change teachers join the school.
