Training tomorrow’s teachers

The importance of quality teaching to student learning and development is undeniable. Decades of research have given us a clear picture of what quality teaching looks like and how teacher expertise develops. The big challenge is to have more high quality teachers. A quality teacher in every classroom is the biggest equity issue in Australian education today. Many have advocated simplistic means to achieve this such as higher pay, payment by results or merit or sacking poorly performing teachers, but reality is more complex.
