Thinking about marginalised young people is a necessity for teachers in both mainstream and alternative schools. Finding ways of responding to marginalisation entails understanding the condition and mentality of marginalised young people. It also requires learning from the teachers who are already working fulltime in this area. We are using the term ‘marginalised’ young people to describe those young people who are suffering in some way because of their distance from the economic, social and cultural mainstream.
