Making this a year of change

When I was given the honour of being named Australian of the Year for 2009, I said I wanted to talk about the protection of the rights and human dignity of all Australians. I said that sometimes we don’t speak up or act because we think a problem is too hard or that it will somehow go away. I said I believe that we’re better than that.
