Nepotism still a problem at Victoria’s schools: ombudsman

A principal in Victoria endorsed the appointment of one on of their children without initially declaring a conflict of interest. Another oversaw the hiring of their partner for almost $80,000 of maintenance work without advertising the position.

This is a problem symptomatic of having schools ‘independent’. Allowing Principals the independence of saying ‘who’ gets hired and fired, leads to nepotism, not that it doesn’t exist in schools anyway, but it allows human nature to run rampant.
