Birmingham pushes for STEM teacher workforce strategy

Every high school in Australia will have at least one specialist STEM teacher if a workforce strategy floated by Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham was to come to fruition and meet its goals.

Attracting career changers into the teaching profession is one solution. If we can somehow incentivize industry professionals from STEM backgrounds to join (and stay in) teaching when they are considering a career change, that will help fill the teacher shortage and bring in highly experienced individuals to the classroom. The need to retain quality teachers is equally important.
