Schools program launched to complement T20 Cricket World Cup

The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup will be incorporated into an Australian Curriculum-aligned Schools Program this year.

Working in collaboration with Cricket Australia, the program will comprise “exploratory learning units” for both primary and secondary students aged 5-16 and complement Australian Cricket’s existing suite of school-based programs.

The programs (created by Kimberlin Education) will address the themes of wellbeing, inspirational women and girls and a creative ‘Build your own World Cup’ subject.

The T20 World Cup 2020 Schools Program will launch later this month and run until the end of the year. Participating schools from across the county will also be afforded the opportunity to attend the women’s and men’s ICC T20 World Cup matches.

Australia will host the two ICC T20 World Cups in 2020, with both events culminating in finals at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Women’s T20 World Cup final is expected to set a new world record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting event on 8 March 2020, coinciding with International Women’s Day.

ICC T20 World Cup Australia 2020 Local Organising Committee CEO Nick Hockley said: “Delivering a ground-breaking Schools Program is one of the main objectives of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. We are confident we will provide teachers, students and parents right across Australia with easy to implement and fun activities that not only contribute to learning outcomes, but also enhance the classroom experience, inspire the next generation, and help to give as many people as possible the opportunity to be part of two T20 World Cups.”

Kimberlin Education managing director Kylie Green said: “The programs will feature a range of diverse real-world soft skills including wellbeing, inspiration, celebration, problem-solving, collaboration, enterprise, creativity, and sport."
