The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) provides national leadership for the Commonwealth, state and territory governments in promoting excellence in the profession of teaching and school leadership.
More than 10,000 teachers and principals from a sample of approximately 1000 schools around Australia are expected to be involved in three studies to validate the draft National Professional Standards for Teachers.

The Board of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) held its first meeting on 8-9 February 2010.
New draft National Professional Standards for Teachers have been released by the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA) for consultation with the education profession and the wider Australian community.
