Bullying not on rise: Rigby

Claims by education minister Julia Gillard that bullying in schools is on the rise have been contradicted by a leading expert. Dr Ken Rigby, Australia's leading bullying expert, said there was no evidence to back up the claim. "In fact, there is reasonably good evidence to show it's in decline. A longitudinal study in Europe and North America over 12 years, involving 27 countries, showed a significant decline in reported bullying. In the US there has been a steady decline in violent behaviour in schools. To date no relevant study has been taken in Australia to monitor trends," Rigby told...
